America is rotting from the inside
Posted by VincebusEruptum from Scholarsandrogues
Politicians are failing to comprehend the breadth of the US infrastructure crisis. Only disasters move our representatives to act - and in an election year, even those actions seem spotty at best and disingenuous at worst. The United States has much more than failing bridges to find, fund and fix. A comprehensive report by Dr. Denny Wilkins.

Posted by Jeff from Seattle Times
A special-effects entrepreneur from Alabama has come up with a way to fill the sky with foamy clouds as big as 4 feet across and shaped like corporate logos - Flogos, as he calls them. Francisco Guerra, who's also a former magician, developed a machine that produces tiny bubbles filled with air and a little helium, forms the foam into shapes and pumps them into the sky.

EBay-Craigslist Fight Is About Kijiji and Control, Complaint Shows
Posted by Jeff from Bits.blogs.nytimes
On Jan. 1, 2008, they reorganized the company's stock structure, issuing one "reorganization" share of Craigslist stock for every five shares of common stock. That diluted eBay's stock from 28.04 percent to 24.85 percent and, as specified in Craigslist's bylaws, eBay lost its ability to elect a director.

eBay Sellers Relaunch Boycott
Posted by Shemuses from Readwriteweb
Back in February, we covered the first major seller strike on eBay, in which a large group of eBay's PowerSellers launched a week-long boycott of the site in an effort to have their voices heard. The sellers, who were unhappy with recent changes to listing prices and other policies, claimed some success and even USA Today reported a 13% drop in sales. However, eBay denied the boycott had any impact whatsoever on their business. This time the boycott will involve both eBay buyers and sellers, and, unlike the first, no end date has been set.

Van Jones -- Green Collar Jobs | Fast Company
Posted by Shemuses from fastcompany
The cheering would begin soon enough. Dressed in a slim-cut gray suit and green tie, Van Jones ascended to the stage grinning and blowing kisses to the crowd. Jones, 39, a 6-foot-1-inch Yale Law grad, was appearing at a summit in San Francisco called "Advancing a New Energy Economy in California." The city's charismatic mayor, Gavin Newsom, was among the presenters, along with corporate bigwigs such as PG&E chief executive Peter Darbee. But no one would outshine Jones.
