Since when are education and eloquence liabilities in a president?
Posted by VincebusEruptum from Scholarsandrogues
Isn't it ludicrous even to ask such a question? Apparently not, in the presidential race of 2008...

t r u t h o u t | Running From Reality
Posted by dureau from Truth Out
The RNC is in denial about its very shaky existence. It was obvious even to the casual observer that McCain and the rest of the Republicans had no new ideas and were creating a culture divide, some say culture war, to drive a wedge between the American people with false issues like abortion and gay marriage. It is time we call the Republicans on this and let the grand ole party become extinct. They brought this on themselves with their neglect of "we the people" while lining their own pockets and the pockets of the very rich with cash. The November election is only a few weeks away and Obma/Biden can lead this country down a new path. A path which goes through the neighborhoods of all Americans.

Obama: Sweet 'n sour home Chicago: The Swamp
Posted by kelidei from Swamppolitics
He meant it as a joke, but when Barack Obama recently parodied a famous line from "The Untouchables" he also dredged up the reputation of his longtime home as a place that is rough, raw and unlikely to breed reform.

GOP ought to declare War on Error
Posted by VincebusEruptum from Jazz-from-hell.blogspot
It no jocke! Despite the hapless Republicans being roused these last few days by the fiery speeches of Sarah Palin and John McCain, the GOP still finds ways to embarrass itself at its own convention to the delight of the world...

The McCain Veepstakes: What Might Have Been
Posted by Shemuses from
With energy, climate change and rising fuel prices the key issues of concern to voters, you wonder what possessed John McCain to put climate-skeptic Sarah Palin one heartbeat away from the presidency -- instead of far more qualified candidates on his short list of potential nominees.

Values verses Candidates
Posted by Villagenyc from
excerpt:
LINK TO FULL PIECE
In these modern times when a campaign song like "Happy Days are here again" seems silly, in these days of Presidential administrations filled with countless advisors, policy shapers and other insiders who pontificate from above to the 'chosen ones' occupying the oval office, it is imperative that voters take into account what are clearly package deals, they are the packages that each party embodies, and each is filled with stark differences and competing ideologies.

Green party announces its first member of Parliament
Posted by Shemuses from CBC
The Green party has gained its first ever member of Parliament - Blair Wilson - a Vancouver-area Independent who quit the Liberal party last year. Green party Leader Elizabeth May introduced Wilson at a news conference Saturday morning in Ottawa. The MP for the West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country riding was turfed from the Liberal caucus last year after allegations of spending irregularities in his 2006 campaign. Wilson reminded reporters that he was cleared of any wrongdoing after an eight-month investigation by Elections Canada. May said her party welcomes the MP because he gives the Greens a voice in parliamentary debates.

Triumph, Bold and Clear
Posted by Shemuses from
Will Obama's speech put the drum beat of doubt to rest? For several weeks, there has been a tiresome, two-part drum beat, the sort of somber thumping one associates with a funeral procession or wake. One droning beat came from the press. Can the Democrats unite? Will Hillary and Bill support Barack? Is there any hope that working-class whites or feminists will find a way to vote for Barack Obama? The second beat came from the Republicans. Obama can't be trusted to protect America. He's not ready to lead. He's merely a clever celebrity. Well, the just-concluded Democratic National Convention has successfully drowned out those nonsensical beats.
