As Irrawaddy went to report on Wednesday, June 11th 2008, despite the announcement of a major multilateral operation to determine the scope of cyclone Nargis on Burma, 18 cyclone victims (women and children) were arrested following their call for help at the UN’s office in Rangoon. They walked there to complain about not receiving any government assistance.

Algae bloom is China’s latest Olympic nightmare

QINGDAO, China (AP) - China’s latest Olympics nightmare is a vast algae bloom that covers one-third of the sea where the world’s best sailors are supposed to be competing in just over a month. Athletes call it the blob, the carpet, the fairway.

"We almost think of it as land," said Carrie Howe, a member of the U.S. team and her three-person squad’s unofficial algae remover. During practice, she dips her hand into the goo three or four times an hour to remove it from the rudder.

When it collects shaggily on the boat’s tow rope, she and her teammates refer to it as "the dog." They’ve named it Hickory…

Chinese Pollution = Increase in Cancer

In attempting to increase its economic development, the Chinese regime has managed to increase its mortality rates. China is one of the most polluted countries in the world, if not the most polluted.

Statistics furnished by the World Bank are astonishing: 16 of the 20 most polluted cities in the world are located in China; 90% of urban groundwater in China is contaminated; it is estimated that circa 900,000 people die every year from air and water pollution.

Highly toxic heavy metals such as lead and mercury contaminate cultivable terrain thus poisoning the food, while the number of Chinese citizens who die due to lung cancer and other serious respiratory diseases is constantly increasing….
