Continue to the storyToday, at a Federal Workforce and Agency Organization Subcommittee hearing entitled “Yucca Mountain: Broken Management, Broken Quality Assurance, Broken Project,” Third District Congressman Jon Porter asked what was being done to address increased concerns surrounding the proposed nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain. These concerns were highlighted in a General Accounting Office (GAO) report, which was the focal point of today’s hearing. Porter, who chairs the Subcommittee and asked GAO to update the report in April of 2005, has been an outspoken critic of the Yucca Mountain Project as more and more evidence points to extensive mismanagement and quality assurance failures.
