A Seattle company, Native Green Energy is installing turbines in Maine to power 50 homes and enable the tribe to sell excess energy to private utilities. There is great potential for wind energy in the native-owned lands in the Northern Great Plains-enough, some experts say, to meet the nation's electrical needs, but existing laws do not allow tax credits to non-Native companies that team with tribes. Bills have been introduced in the House and Senate to allow the tax credit.
