New York - James Hansen, one of the world's leading climate scientists, will today call for the chief executives of large fossil fuel companies to be put on trial for high crimes against humanity and nature, accusing them of actively spreading doubt about global warming in the same way that tobacco companies blurred the links between smoking and cancer.

Melting Antarctic glaciers may be releasing DDT, says study

Adélie penguins in the Antarctic are as chock-full of pesticide DDT as they were in the 1970s, even though global DDT use has dropped 80 percent in the past three decades, says new research published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology. Researchers speculate that climate change is at fault -- honestly, is there anything climate change is not mucking up? -- as concentrations of the pesticide that had been trapped in ice are released by glacial melt and travel up the food chain. DDT has been banned in the northern hemisphere, but the World Health Organization has endorsed its controlled use to fight malaria in Africa. The purpose of the study "was not to further vilify DDT," says lead author Heidi Geisz, but to research how persistent the pesticide and other pollutants of its ilk can be.

The Secret Medical Records of Presidential

    (LiveScience.com)

LiveScience.com - Senator Paul Tsongas had a secret when he ran in the 1992 Democratic
presidential primary - his non-Hodgkin's lymphoma had returned despite a
bone-marrow transplant. Yet Tsongas and his physicians continued to
claim he was "cancer-free" and his true medical condition became public
only after his campaign folded. Had voters elected him president
instead of Bill Clinton, Tsongas would have endured crippling cancer
treatments and died in office, as he did just a few years later. "I

Many Canadians have no sense of humor. My ad was intended as a political statement. I've teetered on the brink of bankruptcy for years, and I'm tired of waiting for guaranteed, affordable health care. When I posted the ad, I added a footnote: "If I do marry a Canadian citizen, I expect the Canadian government to send George Bush, or whoever follows him into the Oval Office, a bill for the $300,000 annual cost of my cancer care."
