But there's another, more salient, tag floating around the Alaska governor, a secret weapon that was on winkin' and twinklin' display during the debate. Few Beltway commentators would dare call this stealth device by name, but the ever-crafty McCain/Palin camp seems to be counting on it to help pull its overmatched ticket across the finish line come November: "MILF" appeal, as in "Mother I'd Like to F...."

LaBruzzo considering plan to pay poor women $1,000 to have tubes tied

Worried that welfare costs are rising as the number of taxpayers declines, state Rep. John LaBruzzo, R-Metairie, said Tuesday he is studying a plan to pay poor women $1,000 to have their Fallopian tubes tied. "We're on a train headed to the future and there's a bridge out, " LaBruzzo said of what he suspects are dangerous demographic trends. "And nobody wants to talk about it."

Reports are saying that Palin's stands on issues of abortion and sex education may be attracting evangelical voters and perhaps scaring off Clinton supporters. What we haven't heard much about, though, is how her positions on women's health have played out in Palin's home state. Alaska's population is 15.4 percent Alaska Native or Native American - the largest percentage of any U.S. state. That's relevant to a discussion on women's issues for a few big reasons. The rate of rape and sexual assault among Indian women is 3.5 times higher than among women of any other racial group in America. In addition, sexual assault victims in Indian country frequently lack access to basic health resources, including rape kits and screening for sexually transmitted diseases.

The B.C. NDP has set aside 25 ridings for female and minority candidates to contest in the next provincial election. The selection of the ridings follows a motion at the party's annual convention last November that required the party to nominate women to run in at least 30 per cent of seats not currently held by the NDP.

She's a hockey mom. We are soccer (or swimming or softball) moms. We can give a pretty good PTA pep talk, and nobody asked us to be vice president.

Reports of domestic violence on rise among Canada's soldiers: MP

The Canadian military is receiving an increasing number of reports about soldiers acting out violently against their families, according to the NDP defence critic. Dawn Black, who is also MP for New Westminster-Coquitlam in British Columbia, has been collecting serious incident reports filed with the Canadian Forces. They suggest violence in military families is increasing, she told CBC News. "Certainly there's more reports of wife assault and angry soldiers exhibiting the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder after returning from Afghanistan," said Black.

Police probing reports of man targeting aboriginal women with date-rape drug

Vancouver police have confirmed they are investigating reports that a man using a date-rape drug has been targeting aboriginal women in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. A man has been preying on the women at a particular bar and spiking their drinks, Marlene George, a longtime community worker at the Carnegie Centre, told CBC News on Tuesday.
