Abortion ultrasound rule advances in S.C.

      Posted by Jeff from MSNBC

Some states make ultrasound images available to women before an abortion, but South Carolina would be alone in requiring women to view the pictures. Critics consider the proposal a tool to intimidate women who already have made an agonizing decision.

      S. Dakota Becomes Abortion Focal Point

Posted by Billbar from Washington Post

A fresh poll suggests voters are inclined to oppose the law as too severe. In a late-July sounding, opponents of the ban held an eight-point lead, with 14 percent undecided. "There's going to be a lot of money spent," said state Rep. Roger W. Hunt (R), the ban's chief sponsor, urging voters to defend the unborn. Pointing to the vivid statewide conversation over HB 1215, formally known as the Women's Health and Human Life Protection Act, he said, "There are a lot of people who have gotten very political because of HB 1215."

      Posted by Billbar

According to the statewide poll, conducted for the Argus Leader and KELO-TV in Sioux Falls, 47 percent of voters polled would vote to reject the ban, compared with 39 percent who would vote to keep it. Another 14 percent were undecided. Support for the current form of the abortion ban came equally from men and women and matched the statewide 39 percent. The political breakdown showed only 23 percent of Democrats support the proposed law, while 51 percent of Republicans and 43 percent of independents back it.

    • Picture of aborted fetus to be flown over Cleveland

      Posted by Billbar from Cleveland.com

As a shock tactic, a national group that opposes abortion plans to fly a billboard-size picture of an aborted fetus over Cleveland beginning Monday. The Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, which frequently employs such attention-grabbing advertising, hopes to jar people into reconsidering their support of abortion, director Gregg Cunningham said. "It will be categorically the most shocking we have ever done," he said. "The imagery is so horrifying that I can't almost stand to look at it."
