      HP's ex-general counsel Ann Baskins was in the best position to recognize the pretexting problem and do something about it. She chose not to. This wilful blindness is not unique to lawyers but it’s shared by managers everywhere. Companies go wrong because managers and executives don’t want to see the bleeding obvious.
