Posted by Billbar from The Independent

Tony Blair is "certain" to become a Roman Catholic shortly after he steps down from office next week, friends of the Prime Minister have told The Independent. They believe it will happen "sooner rather than later".

    • G8 summit: Climate compromise masks mounting conflicts

      Posted by Sandyenglish

The 3,500 reporters and photographers who travelled to the G8 summit in Heiligendamm, Germany, have accomplished their assigned mission. The world has been inundated with reports of progress and idyllic photos: Bush, Merkel and Putin sitting relaxed and chatting in beach chairs; Sarkozy and Blair talking over a glass of beer; a harmonious walk on the beach of the picturesque resort by all of the world leaders.

    • Iran's release of sailors: A humiliating episode for Britain

      Posted by Sandyenglish

Iran’s release of the 15 British naval personnel captured in the Gulf is the dénouement of a humiliating episode for the Blair government and for British imperialism. Since they were captured by Iranian naval forces in the Shatt al Arab waterway, the sailors and marines have come to epitomise the gap between Britain’s pretensions as a world power and its actual capabilities.

    • Britain heightens confrontation with Iran over detained sailors

      Posted by Sandyenglish

The Blair government, backed by the Bush administration, yesterday stepped up diplomatic pressure for the release of 15 British sailors and marines detained by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRG) last Friday. In an already tense situation in the Persian Gulf, US aircraft carrier battle groups have held a major military exercise over the past two days, while British ministers in London called for Iran to be further diplomatically isolated.

Judge: Saudi threats apparently 'rolled over' British government

I also listen to Malloy and he does not report on nearly as much alternative news as we do here or I do on my own Indigenist newsblog. Raw Story and Common Dreams seems to be his main alt-news sources. I’m not sure how much he knows about portals like ours. Drop him a line, maybe he’ll give us a look-see.

Pretty amazing story. I heard about this on Mike Malloy last night.

He always complains about the lack of a free press – but hey, we’re here sharing stories like this!

August terror plot is a 'fiction' underscoring police failures

I think MOST of the terror plots have turned out to be untrue. We know why at this point.

What Bush and Blair Told the Press

It would be great to have a discussion about this. I ask everyone to take a look at the activity on newsvine. Practically every article is discussed in depth. There are a minimum of 10 comments (not really accurate) to each article. this makes news lively. It makes it coem alive when it's discussed. I'm sure everyone knows a little about this story. We probably, all heard of The Downing Street memo. We know, as Liberals, progressives and variartions of "anything but a neo-con", that we were ridiculed for doubting the reasons to go to war. we were told, on many occasions, that we were not patriots. But, we always argued that, in fact, we were certainly the MOST Patriotic for asking questions and demanding assurances that the right thing was being done....BEFORE doing it. Civilians, soldiers, have dies because of lies. This IS treason. We need to discuss that here or elsewhere. people need to spread the word, discuss the facts....and send Bush packing. We're angry. We're tired. I wanna know WHERE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE ON THIS. I WANT TO SEE SOME SPINE, SOME STANDING UP, SOME GOING OUT ...AND SOME ACTION. Where is that revolutionary spirit that made this country great? Why is everyone silent and keeping to themselves. Wake up! Let's Go. Let's make history.
