    • Apple investigating iTunes block in China

      Posted by Jeff from Appleinsider

According to the Associated Press, the Art of Peace Foundation announced on Sunday the release of "Songs for Tibet," a digital album comprised of music by popular artists such as Dave Matthews and Alanis Morissette, as well as a 15-minute speech by exiled Tibetan leader Dalai Lama. One day later, iTunes users began complaining on the official iTunes support forum that they were unable to login and purchase music from the Apple download service. Instead, they were greeted with an error message that said: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. An unknown error occurred.(-4) Make sure your network connection is active and try again."

    • 'Eternal Sunshine' director said to be behind Microsoft Seinfeld commercial

Posted by Jeff from Computer World

If as one expert said Seinfeld is the perfect pitchman to showcase Vista as the operating system of the 1990's, the director of Eternal Sunshine, a story about breakups in which the protagonist has his memory erased to forget the pain of his ex-girlfriend, may be the perfect compliment to this whole effort. The campaign is already a joke, can't wait to see the rest of it.

Head of Foundation Bailed Out Nonprofit Group After Its Funds Were Embezzled

Posted by Jeff from New York Times

When the embezzlement of almost $1 million by the brother of the founder of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, better known as Acorn, surfaced last month, the organization announced that an anonymous supporter had agreed to make it whole. That supporter was Drummond Pike, the founder and chief executive of the Tides Foundation, which channels money to what it describes as progressive nonprofits, including some Acorn charitable affiliates.

    • Banks pushed home equity lines and debt culture

Posted by Jeff from International Herald Tribune

Citigroup spent $1 billion advertising it's Live Richly campaign from 2001 to 2006 encouraging Americans to take out home equity loans. Marketing executives knew that "second mortgage" had an unappealing ring. So they seized the idea of "home equity," with its connotations of ownership and fairness. Advertising historians look back at the '80s as the time when bank marketing came into its own. Citigroup led the way by hiring away advertising staff from packaged goods companies like General Mills and General Foods, where catchy ads were more common. "Banking started using consumer advertising techniques more like a department store than like a bank," said Barbara Lippert, an advertising critic for the magazine Adweek.

    • Is Google a Media Company?

      Posted by Jeff

While Knol is only three weeks old and still relatively obscure, it has already rekindled fears among some media companies that Google is increasingly becoming a competitor. They foresee Google's becoming a powerful rival that not only owns a growing number of content properties, including YouTube, the top online video site, and Blogger, a leading blogging service, but also holds the keys to directing users around the Web.

    • Hint of new Apple product generates blogosphere buzz

Posted by Jeff from Seattle Times

Colegrove thinks Apple might unveil a 7- to 10-inch laptop, joining the many other PC companies that are offering relatively low-cost and lightweight laptops. "If you look at Apple's products - the iPhone, the iPod touch - what's next?" she said. "It's natural that you'll see [touch technology] with notebook computers."

    China's economy cools

Who will pay for all of our debt (in the U.S.) if China doesn’t have enough money to bail out the deficit spenders in Washington DC?

New Apple ads savage Microsoft's $300m Windows campaign

yes those are great commercials Vista does suck old nasty sweaty balls because it tried to DRM trap it’s users and offers very sub par experience and performance

but i would never use a Mac.  it is an even more abhorent monopoly using the same hardware and overpriced. i will format them to XP for friends though.

Apple should be careful – those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. I have been an Apple devotee for decades, but the quality of their products and customer service has slipped considerably in the last few years. I only have to count the number of dead iPods and botch-fixed Shuffles littering my house to remind me that Apple hasn’t put the same amount of care and customer-focused consideration into its recent product lines. Arrogant Apple, rather than the old-school Affable Apple seems to be the order of the day. Strikes me that it will be the sort of cheap-shot ad that comes back to haunt them in times to come.
