    • Don't bank on big raise next year

Posted by Jeff from Seattle Times

Bad news for the working class: Most employees will get less than 3.5 percent. "If you're not in a high-demand position or covered by a union agreement, maybe you'll get 1 percent or 2 percent, if anything at all,"

    • Music labels losing sales over DRM

Posted by Billbar from Ars Technica

Kind of weak evidence, but a recent story in the E-Commerce Times suggests that the labels are now losing customers to their aggressive DRM tactics. The article suggests that in Canada, at least, customers have started to shy away from those "copy-controlled" logos.

Why can’t NYC companies retain employees of color?

This is why I agree with affirmative action.  Opponents say, just let business make the right decision to hire the best candidate.  Well, this is what you get when people are left to do the right thing, they intentionally or unintentionally make the wrong decision. People naturally want to be around people that look like them.  Especially businesses need help with integration, otherwise the people with the most power ethnically will continue to pass it to people that look like them. Have you ever been to an office party where everyone comes in together but the people that work together end up sitting at the same tables?  Well, the same thing occurs in all countries in all industries around the world.  Does it seem unfair to a few that do not see a level playing field when their places are taken for the sake of diversity?  Of course it does, but a few are inconvenienced for the benefit of the whole society that sees a diverse workforce which then inspires others to work hard.  The truth is that there will never be a level playing field unless it is tilted back to level to include minorities.

    Jeff, Jeff, Jeff,

First of all have you ever been to Madrid or London. Al Qaida will kill any Jew, Christian or Hindu they run across and then reload.  A border is not a good defense system for terrorism.  Second, the war and the value of the dollar have weakened us. It is just peculiar that it wasn’t Jimmy Carter who did it to us this time. Third of all the US owns the Stanley Cup (ever been to Detroit ?).  Forth where is Robert Rubin when we need him most !

I’m not sure how’d they feel about adding themselves to the top Al Qaida target list, taking on our ginormous deficit and having to wipe the floor with us on Friday nights in hockey.

One thing I don’t understand is if America is such a great country – why our currency has lost 1/3 of its value in the past 7 years against the Canadian dollar? Anyone? Anyone? My American buck used to be worth $1.55 CDN and now it’s barely even (on a good day).

You’re entitled to your own opinion (if you’re civil) but not your own facts.

Ever heard of the European Union..  Its an economic agreement between countries that have a lot less in common than the US and Canada..  It just makes more sense that a junior varsity country like Canada get real and join a real one.

Every so called country that borders the United States to the north, would have been part of the United States if we were not busy fighting the British, shares a common Western European culture and (mostly)language…. why not….
