      This is a terrific idea - great way to experiment with public finance: In the state budget she proposed Tuesday, Gregoire included a $4.4 million pilot program to make public financing available to Supreme Court and Court of Appeals candidates. Candidates would have to raise a qualifying amount on their own and agree to follow a clean campaign code

    • Interest groups have taken over elections, panel fears

      State Public Disclosure Commission members Thursday said independent campaigns funded by unions, corporations and trade groups are corrupting elections and they want to look at bans and restrictions. The disclosure commission (PDC) appeared alarmed by a staff briefing outlining almost $2.7 million in independent expenditures so far this year. More than two-thirds of that money went into state Supreme Court primary races.

    This is an outstanding start to campaign finance reform. I wonder if they will exclude corporate donations to the party.
