    • Setting a price for putting off death - Los Angeles Times

Posted by Jeff from Los Angeles Times

As Spotlight blogger Jeanne Sather reported last week, the media often uses the wholesale costs in its reporting. God knows how much this costs the patients! "On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration approved GlaxoSmithKline's Tykerb, a once-a-day pill for late-stage breast cancer patients that costs nearly $35,000 a year. It's the latest of half a dozen new cancer therapies with names such as Avastin and Tarceva that can run as much as $100,000 for an annual supply."

Breath test detects most cases of lung cancer

      Posted by Jeff from MSNBC

Catching lung cancer early, when it is still treatable, could save tens of thousands of lives a year in the United States alone. It is the most common form of malignant cancer and also kills the most people, in part because it is not usually detected until it has spread.

    Darker fruits could fight cancer

Nothing new here, except the more exotic the better it seems. Make sure to eat your fruits and vegetables…

Medication errors common in kids with cancer - Cancer

I know I’m biased, but I really believe my hospital must have much better rates than this. We have some pretty hard-core quadruple-checking mechanisms in place. It’s possible to reduce medical errors, but it’s more difficult in smaller community hospitals where they are not dealing with such large volumes of patients and standardization is less of a reality.

Suppressed report shows cancer link to GM potatoes

Strange story – it’s a Russian study .. sorry if I’m skeptical … but the suppression must have been for a reason (not a good reason).

    GMO is a disaster.

The Naked Truth: Cancer Organizations Reject Stripper Donations

I agree Tim, interesting story. I still have a problem with strip clubs though. I am just skeptical that the majority of dancers don’t have a history of physical and sexual abuse…that leads them there… I have a hard time believing that strip clubs are filled with well adjusted women just looking to earn money and enjoy their work.

The story also raised interesting issues related to nonprofits accepting donations from some groups conditional to not accepting donations from others. I think that’s a poor precedent.
