      Fighting between Chad and Sudan Continues

      Chad and Sudan signed a non-agression pact two months ago but frequently blame each other for supporting anti-government forces in their respective countries. "Sudan has not abandoned its sinister project of destabilising Chad," the government said on Monday, calling on the population "to rally more than ever behind the defence and security forces to preserve their democratic gains, and guarantee sovereignty and territorial integrity".

      More than 10,000 flee Chad violence

      Most of the refugees are Chadian, but a large amount are Sudanese people who initially fled the conflict in Darfur only to be diplaced again by spreading unrest, according to the international humanitarian aid agency Doctors Without Borders/M�decins Sans Fronti�res.

      Chad 'needs oil money for arms'

      "Why shouldn't Chad be allowed? We are going to buy weapons. We're going to do it openly. In the next two days these arms will arrive," Mr Deby told the French daily Le Figaro newspaper. The World Bank has frozen Chad's oil revenue account.
