Team says China harvests Falun Gong organs

      Posted by Billbar from Reuters

A respected Canadian human rights lawyer and a former Canadian cabinet member lent their weight on Thursday to charges that China has been killing Falun Gong dissidents so it can use their organs. The two men -- lawyer David Matas, and David Kilgour, former secretary of state for Asia and the Pacific -- spent two months investigating the accusations, which China has regularly denied. "It is simply inescapable that this is going on," Kilgour told reporters as he and Matas released their findings.

First Beijing-Tibet train begins final leg of maiden journey up Tibetan plateau

      Posted by Billbar

China's first train from Beijing to Tibet began the final leg of its journey Monday on the world's highest railway, climbing past 13,000 feet on the Tibetan plateau and causing pens and packaged foods aboard to burst in the thin air. Some passengers began breathing piped-in oxygen from tubes to cope with the high altitude. Many Tibetan passengers on the Beijing-Lhasa train spoke glowingly of it, but it was unclear whether these were candid answers, because dozens of Chinese Foreign Ministry officials were also on board.

    • China's Tibet Railway Ready to Go

Posted by Billbar from Washington Post

China unveils an engineering marvel this weekend _ a railway to Tibet that features high-tech systems to stabilize tracks over permafrost and cabins enriched with oxygen to help riders cope with high altitudes. Tibetans loyal to the exiled Dalai Lama and other critics say the $4.2 billion railway is part of a campaign by Beijing to crush Tibetan culture by encouraging an influx of Han Chinese, China's majority ethnic group.

Stephen Hawking: Earth Could Become Like Venus

Posted by Billbar from Live Science

Before an audience of 500 at a seminar in Beijing, the celebrity cosmologist said he was afraid that Earth "might end up like Venus, at 250 degrees centigrade and raining sulfuric acid.'' The comment is a pointed one for China, which is the second largest emitter of the greenhouse gases that are blamed for global warming.

    Hacker Uncovers Chinese Olympic Fraud

One of the many tragedies of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina three years ago was the fact that insurance companies used the event to systematically deny claims, leaving victims further in desperate straits. That shouldn’t happen following any natural disaster, and even though the immediate storm effects did not cause as much damage as predicted, there are sure to be plenty of claims for flood damages throughout the Midwest and along Gustav’s path. If you or someone you know has been denied an insurance claim related to Gustav: that would be a site you should visit.

Amanda Beard Nude Olympic Anti-Fur Protest Shutdown

After watching an appalling video of stray cats and dogs being stuffed into wire cages like sardines, dropped off the side of trucks, and skinned for their fur, it's easy to see why Amanda Beard felt the need to shed light on the situation... hope it reduces the suffering and grim fate of future animals.

    Hacker Uncovers Chinese Olympic Fraud

This is typical of how the IOC has bowed very low to China in every way, regarding these Olympics.  From lax to a lack of, enforcement of even the mildest of prerequisites China agreed to in order to secure Beijing as the host city, to staying mum while China stops athletes from competing based on their politcal beliefs, the IOC have shown what they are really about: the money!
