Posted by laodan from World Changing

To a very great degree, whether or not we as a planet manage to win the Great Wager depends upon China. The combination of its size, course of economic growth, and existing reliance on pollution- (and carbon-) intensive industries and energy sources lead us to a world in which China's choices mean the difference between success and failure. We've maintained a focus on China's massively ambitious and deeply uncertain plans to turn itself into a green superpower for awhile now, and a review of where we stand is in order.

    Hacker Uncovers Chinese Olympic Fraud

One of the many tragedies of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina three years ago was the fact that insurance companies used the event to systematically deny claims, leaving victims further in desperate straits. That shouldn’t happen following any natural disaster, and even though the immediate storm effects did not cause as much damage as predicted, there are sure to be plenty of claims for flood damages throughout the Midwest and along Gustav’s path. If you or someone you know has been denied an insurance claim related to Gustav: that would be a site you should visit.

Amanda Beard Nude Olympic Anti-Fur Protest Shutdown

After watching an appalling video of stray cats and dogs being stuffed into wire cages like sardines, dropped off the side of trucks, and skinned for their fur, it's easy to see why Amanda Beard felt the need to shed light on the situation... hope it reduces the suffering and grim fate of future animals.

    Hacker Uncovers Chinese Olympic Fraud

This is typical of how the IOC has bowed very low to China in every way, regarding these Olympics.  From lax to a lack of, enforcement of even the mildest of prerequisites China agreed to in order to secure Beijing as the host city, to staying mum while China stops athletes from competing based on their politcal beliefs, the IOC have shown what they are really about: the money!
