    • Abrupt climate change predicted within 20 years

      Posted by Billbar

Climate experts like Dr Lovelock (who saved humanity once before by alerting us to ozone depletion by CFCs) are saying we can expect abrupt climate change in about a decade or two, when the earth will reset it's thermostat upward 10C, ending the Holocene. This will change our climate from the relative mild weather of the Holocene, to a more hot and dry climatic state that has caused massive extinctions of the past (like the end-Permian, the end-Triassic, and the end-Jurassic, and the most recent episode 55 million years ago: the end-Paleocene, often referred to as the PETM).

    • Climate Change Seen as Threat to the Poorest

Posted by Damianmann from Truth Out

Mexico City - Droughts, floods, changing rain patterns, and rising sea levels are threatening development in the world's poorest countries, specialists and aid workers said yesterday at an international water forum. Regions including Africa and South Asia - home to most of the 1.1 billion people who live without clean water - will be among the hardest hit by changing weather patterns, specialists at the Fourth World Water Forum said. They blamed the threats largely on changes in the global climate.

    Sustaintability and insurance risks

One of the many tragedies of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina three years ago was the fact that insurance companies used the event to systematically deny claims, leaving victims further in desperate straits. That shouldn’t happen following any natural disaster, and even though the immediate storm effects did not cause as much damage as predicted, there are sure to be plenty of claims for flood damages throughout the Midwest and along Gustav’s path. If you or someone you know has been denied an insurance claim related to Gustav: that would be a site you should visit.

US business in the dark on climate change

I’m sure Canadian businesses aren’t far behind, though there’s an imbalance in the average created almost exclusively by the corporations making their living off exploiting the northern Alberta (Athabasca) Oil Sands – with virtually zero consideration for even the local biosphere or environment.
