    • Indian Ocean Shows Signs of Global Warming

      Posted by Jeff from Feeds.treehugger

Gael Alory, an oceanographer at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), firmly believes that the changes in sea temperature he's witnessed over the past 40 years in the Indian Ocean are evidence that global warming is taking place. ?From ocean measurements and by analysing climate simulations we can see there are changes in features of the ocean that cannot be explained by natural variability,? says Alory. ?These oceanic changes are almost certainly linked ...

      Climate change refugees

      Posted by SoxFirst

Global warming is creating the climate change refugee and that will present a massive security risk for businesses and governments. At least one billion people - almost equivalent to the entire population of India - will be forced from their homes between now and 2050 because of rising seas, droughts and storms.

    • The Guardian | Is Bush Stalling on Climate Change?

      Posted by Jeff from Feeds.feedburner

President Bush's announcement that the US will convene a series of meetings on climate change may be a stalling tactic. The US is expected to block several initiatives at the G8 summit next week. Tony Juniper said: "It's a classic spoiling tactic from the Americans. Sustaintability and insurance risks

One of the many tragedies of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina three years ago was the fact that insurance companies used the event to systematically deny claims, leaving victims further in desperate straits. That shouldn’t happen following any natural disaster, and even though the immediate storm effects did not cause as much damage as predicted, there are sure to be plenty of claims for flood damages throughout the Midwest and along Gustav’s path. If you or someone you know has been denied an insurance claim related to Gustav: that would be a site you should visit.

US business in the dark on climate change

I’m sure Canadian businesses aren’t far behind, though there’s an imbalance in the average created almost exclusively by the corporations making their living off exploiting the northern Alberta (Athabasca) Oil Sands – with virtually zero consideration for even the local biosphere or environment.
