C-SPAN Demands Sites Censor Colbert Videos

      Posted by j1o2n3a4s5 from Wired

Political comedy often is intended to stir controversy, but this doesn't usually involve broadcasting rights and the public affairs network C-SPAN. The cable network told two internet video providers, YouTube and Ifilm, to pull clips of Stephen Colbert's April 29 performance at the White House Correspondents Association dinner from their websites as it offended the sensibilities of Bush.

A Comedian's Riff on Bush Prompts an E-Spat

Posted by Billbar from New York Times

this was a business decision, not a political one. Not only is the entire event available to be streamed at C-Span's Web site, c-span.org, but the network is selling DVD's of the event for $24.95, including speeches and a comedy routine by President Bush with a President Bush imitator. And C-Span gave permission to Google Videos to carry the Colbert speech beginning Friday.

      Making Colbert go away

      Posted by Billbar from Salon

The docile press corps was offended when Stephen Colbert dared to expose Bush's -- and their own -- feet of clay. But how to respond? Voila: "He wasn't funny."

      Hoyer: Bush deserves respect

Posted by Billbar from Hill News

    • A Small Taste of the Media's Power to Choose the News

Posted by Billbar from Daou Report

The AP's first stab at it and pieces from Reuters and the Chicago Tribune tell us everything we need to know: Colbert's performance is sidestepped and marginalized while Bush is treated as light-hearted, humble, and funny. Expect nothing less from the cowardly American media. Sins of omission can be just as bad as sins of commission.

Colbert at White House Correspondent's Dinner 2006

...it took 232 years, but someone finally did it. Mr. Colbert stripped the political skin and got inside. He showed tact and bearing and still got the truth out. Being a Jon Stewart fan, Stephen frustrates me with his devil’s advocacy but it’s still a good day for democracy. Notice the periods of silence. Stephen Colbert should have a sho- oh wait…
