Time to Go! Inside the Worst Congress Ever

Posted by Billbar from Rolling Stone

These past six years were more than just the most shameful, corrupt and incompetent period in the history of the American legislative branch. These were the years when the U.S. parliament became a historical punch line, a political obscenity on par with the court of Nero or Caligula -- a stable of thieves and perverts who committed crimes rolling out of bed in the morning and did their very best to turn the mighty American empire into a debt-laden, despotic backwater, a Burkina Faso with cable.

GOP Lawmaker Saw Foley Messages In 2000

Posted by Jeff from Washington Post

Rep. Martin T. Meehan (D-Mass.) shot back, "If there's any evidence that you need that the values in Washington have turned upside down, you could just hear what Jack had to say. Only in Washington, D.C., can you take a group of people in charge of the House and basically have evidence that they've been looking the other way while a predator has been . . . going after 15- and 16-year-old pages, [and] they somehow . . . have the audacity to turn that into a political attack against Democrats."

Good read. And it's reached a point where crude straw man arguments and rank demagoguery have become the primary rhetorical tools of the Republican party. But, by alls means, let's continue pretending that both sides are equally to blame for the low quality of our political discourse.

The Mind-Boggling Trillion Dollar Bailout: A Q&A With Finance Writer Max Wolff

This is not good for the economy. You have Lehman Brothers losing 700 billion dolalrs and market falls down 500 points. Then next day, market jumo 800 points because US Government, who is swimming in debt, bailed out bankrupt banks. So, basically market remains unaffected. There is something fundamentally wrong with capitalist financial system.

Bush claims executive privilege on CIA leak

The approval of Mukasey’s appointment was another act of doubling down by the Democrats in Congress. There were warning signs about Mukasey – but the Dems approved the appointment because they were saving the real battle for November.

Democrats May Kick Out Joe Lieberman If He Addresses The Republican National Convention

Addressing the Republican convention would be in the true spirit of "reaching across the aisle"...  republicans have been doing it for years and it would be a welcome change.

About time.  After the ‘08 elections, we won’t need Joe anymore.   If the Republicans can stand him, they can have him.

Senate Passes FISA Bill, Gives Telecoms Immunity

Very disheartening. Exactly what has the 2006 Democratic victory in Congress brought us? Nothing I say.
