      The problem with green consumers

      Posted by SoxFirst

How hard is it for companies to use their action on climate change to win over consumers? Just about impossible is anything to by. Research of consumer attitudes in the UK and US reveal that there isn't much consensus.

This is a great topic. I'm glad he covered it. We need a consumer bill of rights that requires making cancellation simple. Congress should eventually conquer this.

Most Americans are in cell phone jail - Gotcha Capitalism- msnbc.com

Is this guy serious? The free market determines each of the cell phone companies provide. As long as consumers continue to sign the contracts WITH ALL THE STIPULATIONS (to include the possibility for rate hikes), they will continue to stay in business. Here’s a word to the wise: if you don’t read or like the contract, DON’T SIGN IT. Can you really be considered “in jail” for agreeing to something in the first place? That’s like buying a car and then complaining about the outrageous price after you’ve already paid.

There is no such thing as “gotcha capitalism”. There are certain things that the government has deemed as “necessities”. There is one electric company, one water company – in many cases, there is one utility company. They are regulated so that they can’t pull the same kind of crap that the cell phone companies like to pull.

The market continues to evolve. Some companies (like Alltel) are starting offer service with no contracts – because many consumers consider that a huge benefit. It will play to what the consumer will pay for and what will make the cell phone company most profitable. That’s capitalism. AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile all have responsibilities to their shareholders to be most profitable.

You don’t like the service? Don’t buy it. Period.
