      Chinese Dam Projects Criticized for Their Human Costs

      Last year, Chinese officials celebrated the completion of the Three Gorges Dam by releasing a list of 10 world records. As in: The Three Gorges is the world’s biggest dam, biggest power plant and biggest consumer of dirt, stone, concrete and steel. Ever. Even the project’s official tally of 1.13 million displaced people made the list as record No. 10.

    • 260 Foot High Dam Would Create Canadian Lake

      In a biggest-case-scenario, the dam would be 260 feet tall, creating an 18,000-acre reservoir that holds 1.7 million acre feet of water — with half of it in Canada. The reservoir would be larger than Lake Osoyoos which, five miles to the east, crosses the Canadian border north of Oroville.

Over 48,000 dams are in operation worldwide for providing drinking water, irrigate land, produce Hydro-Electricity and prevent floods. Yet, today, over one billion people do not have access to safe drinking water.

      Yet another study showing that removing 4 dams on the lower Snake River would save salmon and provide a boost to the economy. Yet Idaho and Federal officials, in thrall to mining and shipping industries, continue to deny the facts.
