Blogger who posted cartoons of Christ online being investigated

      Posted by j1o2n3a4s5

During the controversy over publication of the Danish cartoons that lampooned Allah, many observers pointed out that Western culture differed such that reaction to charicatures of Jesus would have been much more subdued. But Singapore does not have the same level of democratic values as the West and authorities there have arrested a blogger for depicting Jesus Christ in an offensive manner. Describing himself as a free thinker, he said he had posted a cartoon that depicted Jesus as a zombie biting a boy’s head in January.

      Suffer little children

Posted by j1o2n3a4s5 from Guardian UK

This image of God the father, for whom violence is an expression of tough love, is lodged deep in the evangelical imagination. And it twists a religion of forgiveness and compassion into something dark and cruel. Bush threatened to use his first veto while in office to prevent the Senate from banning torture. Likewise, many “Christians” greatly fear that the government might take away their “right” to beat their own children. What does it tell you about a group if their biggest fear is that they’ll be prevented from torturing the defenseless? Jesus did have it right on this one; “It would be better for them if a millstone was hanged about their neck, and that they were drowned in the depth of the sea.”

      The Religious Right Is Un-American

      Posted by j1o2n3a4s5

Many people associated with the Religious Right in America would have us believe that the United States was founded as a Christian nation. They foster this lie because they want to force their narrow-minded religious beliefs down our throats. They would like us to envision that Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and James Madison are standing with them shoulder to shoulder when they spout their distorted views on abortion, contraception, gay marriage, school prayer, evolution, etc. But to assert that the U.S. is a Christian nation is clearly un-American, if we define "American" as holding dear the precepts and values handed down to us in the Constitution by the Founding Fathers. The framers of the Constitution had no intention of defining our country as Christian. On the contrary, they were deeply concerned about preventing any kind of religious tyranny.

      Divide and Conquer the Voters

Posted by j1o2n3a4s5 from New York Times

President Bush devoted his Saturday radio speech to a cynical boost for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. It was depressing in the extreme to hear the chief executive trying to pretend, at this moment in American history, that this was a critical priority.

      Truth Is for 'Liberals'

Posted by j1o2n3a4s5 from The Nation

Here we are, five and a half years into the Bush Administration, and the press corps still hasn't figured out how to handle the White House's primary tactic of media management: lying.

Posted by j1o2n3a4s5 from Huffington Post

You too can become a best-selling author of conservative books in eight easy steps -- really. This is made possible by conservative publishers applying the lessons of Henry Ford's assembly-line production to the publishing industry by following a proven formula to churn out book after book, each guaranteed early best-seller status through bulk sales to conservative groups. For example, Ann Coulter's newly released Godless: The Church of Liberalism is her fourth book in five years. Your path to replicating her success is only eight steps away.

She's never eaten anything in her life.... Maybe she had a pumpkin seed back in the '80's. But that's about it.
