      More Congo fighting sparks diplomatic moves

      Gunbattles shook the Democratic Republic of Congo capital Kinshasa for a third day on Tuesday as foreign governments pressed President Joseph Kabila and an election rival to halt fighting between their feuding forces. Fighting has rocked the riverside capital since Sunday when electoral officials announced that a presidential election run-off would be held in October between Kabila and former rebel chief Jean-Pierre Bemba, his closest rival. "This is clearly a push and shove between these two egos. We are putting pressure on them for a face-to-face meeting," a western diplomat, who asked not to be named, told Reuters. "It does seem the politicians have been sidelined by the military types."

      Iran has been trying to buy large quantities of uranium from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and smuggle it out through Tanzania. This is seriously dangerous. We got our uranium from the DRC for our first nukes.

      Foreigners held over Congo 'plot'

      At least 30 foreigners are being held in the Democratic Republic of Congo in connection with an alleged coup plot. The men - including South African, Nigerian and United States citizens - were working for a security company.
