    • Ethanol to the Rescue?

Posted by Shemuses from The Tyee

Admittedly, this Big Story is a couple days old, given that U.S. President Bush spotlighted ethanol and other bio-fuels in his State of the Union address Wednesday evening. But given that Bush pinned his nation's future on distilled corn in gas tanks, bio-fuels will be a Big Story for quite some time.

    • Oil sands hit major 'hurdle' in California

Posted by Shemuses from Globe and Mail

The tar sands are one of the most prolific sources of energy in North America, but the fabled petroleum resource may have trouble finding a market in California under a new state policy requiring all vehicle fuels sold there to produce lower emissions of greenhouse gases.

    • Finding the Green in Building Renovation

Posted by Shemuses from New York Times

It is a rare announcement for a new commercial office building these days that does not trumpet the new structure’s “green” features. In fact, nearly 5,000 buildings across the country, 90 percent of them new construction, are awaiting evaluation by the United States Green Building Council.

The greening of the oil sands

Posted by Shemuses from Globe and Mail

The three threads intertwine as a sense of urgency about global warming has pushed the environment into a tie with health care as the biggest issue in the minds of Canadians, according to new numbers this week from a quarterly poll by Environics Research. The issue could define the next federal election and has left the Alberta energy industry...

    Jeff, Jeff, Jeff,

First of all have you ever been to Madrid or London. Al Qaida will kill any Jew, Christian or Hindu they run across and then reload.  A border is not a good defense system for terrorism.  Second, the war and the value of the dollar have weakened us. It is just peculiar that it wasn’t Jimmy Carter who did it to us this time. Third of all the US owns the Stanley Cup (ever been to Detroit ?).  Forth where is Robert Rubin when we need him most !

I’m not sure how’d they feel about adding themselves to the top Al Qaida target list, taking on our ginormous deficit and having to wipe the floor with us on Friday nights in hockey.

One thing I don’t understand is if America is such a great country – why our currency has lost 1/3 of its value in the past 7 years against the Canadian dollar? Anyone? Anyone? My American buck used to be worth $1.55 CDN and now it’s barely even (on a good day).

You’re entitled to your own opinion (if you’re civil) but not your own facts.
