      Former Enron Corp. Chief Executive Jeffrey Skilling declared he was "absolutely innocent" Monday as he began to testify in his own defense in his fraud and conspiracy trial. "I will fight those charges until the day I die," Skilling said. Takes gall.

      Wesley H. Colwell, the former top accountant for Enron Corp.'s profitable trading division, testified Monday that he improperly raided reserves to increase earnings in mid-2000 when he learned former Chief Executive Jeffrey Skilling wanted to beat Wall Street expectations. Boy, this guy must have got a nice deal from the feds.

      Paula Rieker, a vice-president of investor relations and corporate secretary for Enron's board, testified that after directors learned that company founder Kenneth Lay repaid more than $70-million in company loans with Enron stock in 2001,"They were outraged," one member, John Duncan, saying: "He was using Enron like a damn ATM machine."
