Invincible: Opportunity in Crisis
Posted by Shemuses
The Detroit rapper reflects on her music, activism and inspirations. Balancing art and activism is a challenge. Just ask Ilana Weaver, better known to hip-hop fans as Invincible, the Detroit-based emcee who has been rapping for well over a decade. A 2002 XXL Magazine feature lauded her as a talented lyricist and seasoned performer. She was also called "every A&R's worst nightmare" due to her notorious reputation for turning down record deals and butting heads with industry stalwarts.
Don't Go to Commercial

Have you heard the good news? If not, let me be the first to tell you. BET has FINALLY gotten the ol' Don Imus treatment. That's right. Some major sponsors have pulled advertisements from BET, due to the gratuitous violence, profanity and obscenity on some of the cable network's programs, according to a report in the Chicago Defender.

GM, Procter & Gamble Pull Ads on BET

Media watchdogs are declaring it a victory. Black Entertainment Television hasn't said much, and advertisers are mum. What is clear, though, is that at least two top advertisers--automaking giant General Motors and consumer goods manufacturer Procter & Gamble--have pulled ads from BET's Rap City and 106 & Park programs.

Italy is not a country that is known for its tolerance or its embrace of multi-culturalism, and yet, all of a sudden the runways in Milan are crowded with black models. Nothing remarkable. I have worked in the hospitality industry most of my life. My interests tend to be of things spiritual, about science, the fringes of knowledge, chess, and computer programming to name a few.
