Craig poses dilemma for GOP colleagues

      Posted by Jeff from MSNBC

The Idaho Republican's decision gives his GOP colleagues two unpleasant choices. They can resume pressuring him to leave, and risk being seen as disloyal politicians who go harder on alleged homosexual misdeeds than on heterosexual wrongdoings. If not for Mark Foley, who would run Congress today?

      Priest tells of Foley relationship

      Posted by Billbar from Heraldtribune

A Catholic priest told the Herald-Tribune on Wednesday about an intimate two-year relationship he had with former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley when the congressman was a teenage altar boy living in Lake Worth. From his home on the island of Gozo, near Italy, Anthony Mercieca described a series of encounters that he said Foley might perceive as sexually inappropriate. Among them: massaging Foley while the boy was naked, skinny-dipping together at a secluded lake in Lake Worth and being naked in the same room on overnight trips.

Key Witness In Page Scandal To Testify

Posted by Billbar from CBS News

The questioning of the former clerk, Jeff Trandahl, is coming after Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-La., spent three hours with ethics investigators. He sought to explain how his office dealt with the complaint from a former page about too-friendly e-mails from Foley. Trandahl's testimony is critical in determining how many people knew about Foley's behavior with pages and whether there are even more incidents than those reported so far. As the House officer with direct responsibility for the page program, Trandahl is virtually certain to know whether there have been other complaints about Foley, including an alleged incident in which the Florida Republican tried to enter the page dorm while drunk.

Rep. Alexander questioned by House panel

Posted by Billbar from Boston Globe

A Louisiana congressman and sponsor of a page who later received questionable e-mails from ex-Rep. Mark Foley went before a House ethics panel Wednesday to explain how his office handled the teen's complaint last fall. GOP Rep. Rodney Alexander appeared Wednesday morning and said he would address reporters after testifying. He says that after he and his staff learned of the e-mails to the former page, his aides contacted the office of House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., for advice on what to do about communications the boy's family thought were inappropriate.

Rove Asked Mark Foley to Run Again This Year

Posted by Jeff from The New Republic

According to the source, Foley said he was being pressured by "the White House and Rove gang," who insisted that Foley run. If he didn't, Foley was told, it might impact his lobbying career. "He said, 'The White House made it very clear I have to run,'" explains Foley's friend, adding that Foley told him that the White House promised that if Foley served for two more years it would "enhance his success" as a lobbyist.

Former Pages Describe Foley as Caring Ally

So, it was known as early as early as 2001 that Foley was ‘odd’ and the House leadership did nothing.

    House Leaders Knew About Foley

I guess a pedophile, if he’s a Republican, is worth keeping in the House. Thing is, Congressmen preying of pages is nothing new and they’ve never gone after them. Any wonder the American people have such a low opinion of Congress?
