GOP Lawmaker Saw Foley Messages In 2000

Posted by Jeff from Washington Post

Rep. Martin T. Meehan (D-Mass.) shot back, "If there's any evidence that you need that the values in Washington have turned upside down, you could just hear what Jack had to say. Only in Washington, D.C., can you take a group of people in charge of the House and basically have evidence that they've been looking the other way while a predator has been . . . going after 15- and 16-year-old pages, [and] they somehow . . . have the audacity to turn that into a political attack against Democrats."

    • Scheer: Condi Rice - More Sordid Than Foley

      Posted by Billbar from Alternet

Call me old school, but I am still more concerned with the Republicans molesting Lady Liberty while pretending to be guarding the nation's security, an assignment that they have totally botched. The news about the Foley cover-up, while important as yet another example of extreme hypocrisy on the part of the Republican virtues police, should not be allowed to obscure the latest evidence of administration deceit as to its egregious ineptness in protecting the nation. Surely lying under oath in what was arguably the most important official investigation in the nation's history should be treated more seriously than the evasiveness in the Paula Jones case that got President Bill Clinton impeached.

      GOP's Hold on Evangelicals Weakening

Posted by Billbar from Washington Post

The war in Iraq and the Rep. Foley mess are having an effect on evangelicals. A nationwide poll of 1,500 registered voters released yesterday by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center found that 57 percent of white evangelicals are inclined to vote for Republican congressional candidates in the midterm elections, a 21-point drop in support among this critical part of the GOP base. In 2004, white evangelical or born-again Christians made up a quarter of the electorate, and 78 percent of them voted Republican, according to exit polls. But some pollsters believe that evangelical support for the GOP peaked two years ago and that what has been called the "God gap" in politics is shrinking.

Former Pages Describe Foley as Caring Ally

So, it was known as early as early as 2001 that Foley was ‘odd’ and the House leadership did nothing.

    House Leaders Knew About Foley

I guess a pedophile, if he’s a Republican, is worth keeping in the House. Thing is, Congressmen preying of pages is nothing new and they’ve never gone after them. Any wonder the American people have such a low opinion of Congress?

Foley Resigns From Congress Over E-Mails

From the section of Rep. Mark Foley’s House page labeled ‘Children’:

As a founder and co-chair of the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children’s Caucus, Mark has been instrumental in the development and passage of legislation designed to protect our children [...] Mark also is a firm believer in finding and supporting innovative ways to encourage our children%u2019s educational horizons
