      Obama calls for 90-day foreclosure moratorium

      A foreclosure moratorium was the right solution a month ago - still an important piece of preventing a long term recession: Democrat Barack Obama, bidding to extend his lead in the polls, proposed Monday to put home foreclosures on hold and give tax breaks to businesses that create jobs, while Republican opponent John McCain issued veiled but stinging criticism of the Bush administration.

    • Foreclosures Four Times Higher in Military Towns

      Foreclosure filings in 10 towns and cities within 10 miles of military facilities, including Norfolk, Virginia, home of the Navy's largest base, rose by an average 217 percent from January through April from a year earlier. Nationally, the rate was 59 percent in the same period, according to RealtyTrac, which tallies bank seizures, auctions and default notices.

      Fraud and foreclosures

      Is there a link between foreclosures, the hot housing market and fraud? Very much so. Once the housing market cools, there is an increase in foreclosures, delinquencies and defaults of mortgage loans that have been based on fraudulent information.
