  Jewish journalist Arthur Neslen doesn't feel comfortable being in Israel - and not because of the stifling heat. Rather, his discomfort stems from political and ideological reasons. It wasn't easy, he says, to follow a path that led to a situation where he is in effect living here and "accepting benefits as a Jew over an indigenous population that has very few or no rights."

A fundamental pillar of international humanitarian law, this body of four conventions was, in its current form, drawn up in 1949, with two additional Protocols added in 1977 and a 3rd Protocol adopted in 2005. Israel ratified the Conventions in 1951, and as such is legally bound by them. Let’s take a look to see how well Israel is meeting its international obligations…

  Good stuff from Haaretz. A close friend and I were talking about this crisis and how it is that a people who emerged from the horror of their own genocide could become such brutal participants in that of another people. That’s a whole other issue, one we should spend more time on here at GNN… but the key here is that this is more about psychology than politics. Israel is becoming (some would say it has been for a long time) a rogue state. They need a time of healing, a process to wash away their fear-based, survival-based paradigm. Like the South Africans before them, the only way to get them there is through international pressure. This crisis, though the work of extremists on both sides, offers just that opportunity.

  Another day, another Bush lie uncovered. Certainly this meets the definition of high crimes and misdemeanors if anything does. Who was Bush so anxious to have spied on in this country a full 7 months before an attack the government “claims” it had no advanced knowledge of? Given that it is said the Patriot act was also drafted around that time, it becomes much clearer how the government had planned for the eventual opportunities offered by Bush’s good family friend Osama well in advance.

I abandoned my neutrality long ago. My thoughts, prayers, support, and activist efforts as an essayist, small Internet publisher, and dissident against the American Empire are with the Palestinians. I am deeply sickened by fact that the United States government finances Israel’s genocide against the Palestinians with my tax dollars. It enrages me that AIPAC and bellicose supporters of Israel dictate so much of our foreign policy.

  Since 9/11, the obscure rulings set forth by the US Court system, which hinder the process of justice for the common citizen, have continued to snowball and gain momentum as the “war on terror” drudges onward. Shutting out defense lawyers and dropping lawsuits under the guise of “national security” are becoming the norm for judicial decisions on cases which involve injustices brought on by US intelligence agencies, among others.
