Berliners welcome Obama as they did JFK

Posted by Jeff from Christian Science Monitor

The centerpiece of Barack Obama's overseas tour comes Thursday in Berlin when the Democratic presidential candidate gives the only public foreign policy speech of his trip to an Obama-mad crowd of Germans who see him as another John F. Kennedy. He's in a country and a continent making no secret it is ready for change.

The Olympic torch's shadowy past: Nazi Germany

Posted by Jeff from BBC News

The idea of lighting the torch at the ancient Olympian site in Greece and then running it through different countries has much darker origins. It was invented in its modern form by the organisers of the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. And it was planned with immense care by the Nazi leadership to project the image of the Third Reich as a modern, economically dynamic state with growing international influence.

    • German court attacks train drivers strike

      Posted by Sandyenglish

A three-hour strike by the German train drivers union (Gewerkschaft Deutscher Lokführer - GDL) on Friday morning caused widespread disruption to the country’s train service. Becoming A Vancouverite – Or Not?

      Posted by Orato

After three years of living in Vancouver I feel mildly acclimatized. It is less of an effort to suppress my constant grumpiness and instead tell everyone that I’m feeling great. The traditional German grumpiness was, after all, one reason I left Germany. I do most of my thinking in English and my German vocabulary is dwindling, much to the horror of my family.

Kevmoo – all our stories are browsed in frames – unless the news site doesn’t allow it. What would you prefer to see, a link to a new window? a link to the site? In the future, just email feedback rather than posting a comment in an unrelated story. jeff at newscloud

Why are American wannabe emperors campaigning outside of the U.S.?  Bush did Mexico the last two rounds and Kerry did France.  What gives?  How is this legal?

Dude…a nested frame to see the background piece? Really?

We all love sticky pages, but let’s not use 1998 techniques.
