    • Far-Right Party Wins Seats in an East German State

Posted by Billbar from New York Times

The National Democratic Party, which openly espouses xenophobic and neo-Nazi views, was projected to win slightly more than 7 percent of the vote, according to preliminary results. That was less than analysts here had feared, but enough to clear the threshold of 5 percent for seats in the state legislature. Extreme-right parties will now be represented in three of Germany’s six eastern states — a trend that worries officials and underlines the divide between the country’s eastern and western halves. Far-right parties have negligible support in more-prosperous western Germany.

Tainted Biotech Rice Found in Germany

      Posted by Billbar from Kurtnimmo

"Tests conducted by an independent accredited laboratory have confirmed the presence of Bayer's Liberty Link rice in U.S. parboiled long grain rice sold in Aldi Nord, a major German supermarket chain," Greenpeace said in a statement. At present, no biotech rice at all is allowed to be grown, sold or marketed in the 25 countries of the EU. In August, the European Commission tightened requirements on U.S. long-grain rice imports to prove the absence of LL Rice 601, which it said was marketed by Germany's Bayer AG and produced in the United States. The Commission's decision followed the discovery by U.S. authorities of trace amounts of LL Rice 601, engineered to resist a herbicide, in long-grain samples that were targeted for commercial use. The only other evidence so far of the presence of LL Rice 601 in the EU-25 has been in the Netherlands, where Dutch authorities have been testing a 20,000-tonne U.S. rice cargo that was partly destined for Britain and partly for Germany.

Anne Frank diary burning sparks outrage in Germany

      Posted by Billbar from Reuters

The ceremonial burning of the diary of Holocaust victim Anne Frank by far-right extremists in eastern Germany was condemned by the German government on Friday amid calls to intensify efforts to stamp out neo-Nazi activity. "This act was beneath contempt and could scarcely have been more primitive," the German Interior Ministry said in a statement to Reuters.

    • Hunter kills first Bavarian bear seen in 170 years

      Posted by Billbar from Reuters

A rampaging wild bear, the first seen in Bavaria in more than 170 years, has been shot dead by a hunter, a spokesman for the local authority in the region of Oberbayern. Germany's animal protection agency in Bavaria called the decision to shoot the bear "hysterical", but a spokesman for the World Wildlife Fund said the beast could not be left out in the wild as it was too dangerous.

Kevmoo – all our stories are browsed in frames – unless the news site doesn’t allow it. What would you prefer to see, a link to a new window? a link to the site? In the future, just email feedback rather than posting a comment in an unrelated story. jeff at newscloud

Why are American wannabe emperors campaigning outside of the U.S.?  Bush did Mexico the last two rounds and Kerry did France.  What gives?  How is this legal?

Dude…a nested frame to see the background piece? Really?

We all love sticky pages, but let’s not use 1998 techniques.
