      The notorious US detention camp in Guantanamo Bay has been hit by fresh allegations of human rights abuses, with claims that dozens of children were sent there - some as young as 14 years old. They include at least 10 detainees still held at the US base in Cuba who were 14 or 15 when they were seized - including child soldiers who were held in solitary confinement, repeatedly interrogated and allegedly tortured.

      China Demands Return of Gitmo Detainees

      China on Tuesday demanded the return of five Chinese Muslims released from the Guantanamo Bay detention center, denouncing a U.S. decision to allow them to seek asylum in Albania. "These suspects should be sent to China as soon as possible," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao.

      Bush says he would like to close Guantanamo

      President George W. Bush said he would like to close the U.S.-run prison at Guantanamo Bay, but was awaiting a Supreme Court ruling on how suspects held there might be tried. Bush's comments were a reiteration of long-standing U.S. policy, Frederick Jones, spokesman for the White House National Security Council, said in Washington. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, however, has dismissed calls for the prison to be closed.

      The plight of five ethnic Chinese detainees held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, has come to an end, the State Department said yesterday. Albania has agreed to take in the detainees and is considering their applications for asylum.
