      US politics 'obsessed' with ads

Posted by Billbar from BBC News

Finding cash to fund TV commercials is "the only thing that matters in American politics now", former US Vice-President Al Gore has said. "The person who has the most money to run the most ads usually wins," he told the Edinburgh TV Festival. It was "astonishing" that the average American devoted nearly five hours a day to TV viewing, he added. And Mr Gore asserted the internet was making TV more accessible and letting people join a "multi-way conversation".

Where did that video spoofing Gore's film come from?

Posted by Jeff from Pittsburgh Post Gazette

Exxon builds fake penguin video to spoof Gore's Inconvenient Truth. You'd think when you're making $55,000 per minute you could care less about the opposition. I guess they are really scared of climate change policy shifts in public opinion.

Gore praises Wal-Mart for sustainability plans

      Posted by Billbar

Former Vice President Al Gore on Wednesday praised Wal-Mart for a newfound focus on environmental sustainability, saying the retailer showed there is no conflict between the environment and the economy. "I believe that this kind of commitment is so important that the rest of the world is likely to be listening and learning,'' Gore told an auditorium of more than 800 Wal-Mart employees, suppliers and outside experts who are advising the company. Chief Executive Lee Scott last October said Wal-Mart would become a leader in sustainability, with three goals: reducing waste to zero, moving toward using only renewable energy and offering more products made in a way that preserves the environment.

Group: Gore a hypocrite over power bill

Indeed. Classic “attack the messenger by attempting to hoist them on their own straw-man petard.” Shame on the AP for mindlessly reprinting unsourced propaganda.

Group: Gore a hypocrite over power bill

First – you can see a picture of the antibellum style home (can’t tell if it’s modern or genuine) in this AP story.

Second – the source of the criticism is a conservative think-tank, The Tennessee Center for Policy Research. AP just reported the story – it did not do the research.

Third – how in the world can someone (person, organization) obtain power bills on someone else’s property? The power company says it hasn’t disclosed the bills: “But company spokeswoman Laurie Parker said the utility never got a request from the policy center and never gave it any information.”

Finally – it’s a classic ad hominem (attack the messenger), just taken to a new level.
