  The litany of complaints about the legal treatment of prisoners at Guantánamo Bay is long, disturbing and by now familiar. Nonetheless, a new wave of shock and criticism greeted the Pentagon's announcement on February 11 that it was charging six Guantánamo detainees, including alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, with war crimes - and seeking the death penalty for all of them.

If Betancourt’s assertions are true, then the United States is once again responsible (at least in part) for the setting up of false ‘heroic rescues’ and similar phenomena.
We should not forget that intitial reports from Iraq claimed that Kurdish forces captured Saddam Hussein, who then turned him over to Coalition forces.
Neither should we forget the Pat Tillman and Jessica Lynch affairs.

Thomas Friedman: Charge It to My Kids

This is one of the best opinion pieces I’ve ever read in the New York Times or anywhere. I’ve never been a huge fan of Friedman but this essay reads like he’s finally come around to common sense…
