    • Washington Bans Chemicals; Industry Freaks

      Posted by Jeff from Slashdot

"The governor of Washington is scheduled to sign legislation today to ban flame retardants called PBDEs in furniture, televisions, and computers in the state. This is despite the more than $220,000 the chemical industry has spent since 2005 to defeat the legislation. At a time when the federal government is largely ineffectual in regulating long-used but potentially dangerous industrial chemicals, the Washington ban could be the beginning of the end for PBDEs across the nation.

Candidates would have to raise a qualifying amount on their own and agree to follow a clean campaign code

    • Gregoire: Voters should decide on Viaduct

Posted by Jeff from Seattle Post-Intelligencer

Shame on the governor...why deny voters the right to choose the no-rebuild option? Or the tear down and wait option? "All other options - including tearing the viaduct down and having surface streets take the traffic - are off the table." Super lame and anti-democratic.

Could be a great step on the long road to get big money out of politics. Cheers to Gregoire for knowing how to move the ball downfield.
