      Posted by Billbar from Alternet

What Israel and its benefactor -- the United States -- really want is to destroy the democratically elected Hamas government. Israeli President Ehud Olmert made the astounding statement that "the lives and well-being of Sderot's [Jewish] residents are more important than the deaths of dozens of Palestinian innocents." The Associated Press quoted Olmert as saying, "I want no one to sleep at night in Gaza. I want them to know what it feels like."

      Israeli soldier 'is still alive'

Posted by Billbar from BBC News

As a deadline set by the militants passed, one of the groups holding Gilad Shalit said they would not kill him, but there would be no more talks. Hamas' Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the Popular Resistance Committees and the little-known Islamic Army say they are holding him.

      Israel strikes Palestinian PM's office

      Posted by Billbar from Reuters

An Israeli helicopter fired a missile into the empty office of Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh on Sunday in an attack that punctuated threats to target the Hamas leadership unless an abducted soldier is freed. "This is the policy of the jungle and arrogance," Haniyeh told Reuters. "Nothing will affect our spirit and nothing will affect our steadfastness."

Hamas performs about-turn on Israeli state

Posted by Billbar from Guardian UK

Hamas has made a major political climbdown by agreeing to sections of a document that recognise Israel's right to exist and a negotiated two-state solution, according to Palestinian leaders. Israel-Hamas truce announced

The religious had always relations with the Hamas. A strong Hamas, a weak OLP {niet anymore: the OLP is now strong again in  cis jordan), or the possibility to reunify again the two side in a democratic process like in Maroco, for exemple. Where is  the interest of Israel ? what are the rules of the game ? War and trouble is never good for Israel.
