As Text Messages Fly, Danger Lurks

Posted by Shemuses from New York Times

Senator Barack Obama used one to announce to the world his choice of a running mate. Thousands of Americans have used them to vote for their favorite "American Idol" contestants. Many teenagers prefer them to actually talking. Almost overnight, text messages have become the preferred form of communication for millions. But even as industry calculations show that Americans are now using mobile phones to send or receive more text messages than phone calls, those messages are coming under increasing fire because of the danger they can pose by distracting users.

Aboriginal issues missing from election campaign: First Nations leader

      Posted by Shemuses from CBC

A First Nations leader in British Columbia says aboriginal issues are missing from the agenda in this year's federal election campaign. Shawn Atleo, the B.C. regional chief of the Assembly of First Nations, said it's frustrating to see issues like the environment and the economy dominating the election, while federal party leaders are ignoring the issues that matter to Canada's aboriginal population. "It's very difficult to talk about the economy in places like B.C. without talking about title and rights issues and negotiations," he said. "It's difficult to talk about health without considering that First Nations health issues are a top issue in this country."

    • Ike Swamps Native Communities in Louisiana Bayous

      Posted by Shemuses

Weary evacuees filled rescue shelters, and local officials watched the costly damage mount from Hurricane Ike after its massive storm surge swamped Louisiana's coastline and flooded the bayou communities where much of the state's Native American population lives. Thousands fled the region as mandatory evacuations were ordered for low-lying portions of Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes, and those fleeing the storm included members of the United Houma Nation, the Pointe-au-Chien tribe, the Isle de Jean Charles Band and the Lafourche Band of the Biloxi-Chitimacha Confederation. Many of the Native Americans were among those living in some of the most vulnerable communities of the bayou including the Isle de Jean Charles...

Eco-Friendly Sex Toys: Why Your Pink Parts Should Go Green

I consider myself a sex toy junkie, and have been using sex toys for the past 10 years. I can’t stress enough the importance of Eco-sex toys or so called Green Sex Toys. They are safe for you and the environment. Many sex toy manufacturers have completely switched into producing only sex toys that are phthalate-free, but I believe that everyone should impose on manufacturers and demand that sex toys are always "Green".

    Nail Fungus Treatment

Nail fungus can be difficult to treat, and repeated infections are common. Over-the-counter antifungal nail creams and ointments are available, but they aren’t very effective.
