Stranded Polar Bear Shot in Iceland

      Posted by Jeff

Straight from NewsCloud's Iceland bureau, the stranded bear mentioned in this article was reported killed in this report today (untranslated). Polar bears are not commonly found in Iceland. Once in a while they swim to the coast from the drifting ice from Greenland. As there has been very little drift ice off the coast this winter this animal seems to have swum a very long distance to the north coast of Iceland.

Mr. Magni: Iceland's Singer Of The Year

      Posted by Orato

The name 'Magni' comes from Norse mythology (son of Thor) and means 'strong.' But today, the name brings a much different character to mind, for Magni was just awarded the People's Choice Award for Singer of the Year on the northwest European island of Iceland. Magni has been passionate about music since his youth and, in 1999, moved to Reykjavik and became the lead singer for the band Á Móti Sól.

Stranded Polar Bear Shot in Iceland

It’s sad to know that after the first shot, Iceland government decided to do the second shot in just  two weeks later! Within a month, they killed 2 polar bears and 20 years ago they also killed another polar bear. The question here is that how serious is the Iceland government try to handle this matter. Don’t they have shame? The world now see how incapable they are just to handle this matter. So what about if it’s more than 2 polar bears appear in Iceland(which is very possible)? I am afraid that they will kill them again because even only one polar bear they couldn’t organized a well capture. They just made a quick decision, better just shot than take the risk. It was not a wise decision at all and will show people especially in Iceland that it’s just ok to shot polar bear. There’re so many facts during the recent two cases that show the capture process lack of well organize. The iceland gov said that the first shot because they dont have enough drug to tranquiled the polar bear however immediately a vet chief against the statement (it means they never really spread the news within the region). Another reason because the polar bear run to the reporters but of course the police should clear the area from reporters in a proper distance from the polar bear. The second polar bear was shot because the polar bear run to the sea, so they decided to shot her because they afraid she will come back and attack people.  And after bad, the polar bear already in a bad condition (injury) so they said it will eventually drawn in the sea….what a poor and disgusting statement. For the latter reason, it’s really stupid and show how arrogant those people are. What they think they are? They think they have the authority to take someone’s life? If the reason because they afraid it will die drawn in the sea, just leave it like that, to die naturally, not die because being killed!  Why block her opportunity to save her life? Do you, hey…people who shot this bear assure that she won’t find her way back? There’s opportunity that she might make it, we never know. It’s such a coward and selfish to kill in order to make sure you can enjoy your life there.

Mosart, that makes no sense you cant blame Bush for a polar bear swimming to Iceland. Not that Bush is perfect in the least bit, but seriously…..he is a president of ONE country. Instead of blaming him for the entire world’s issues, why not look at who was responsible for the shooting of that polar bear! Iceland in no way handled that in honorable or morally justified way. Perhaps people should have ran away from the bear and taken shelter so that it could be removed safely. One article I read said the bear charged after journalists. Someone explain to me why its justifiable to shoot a bear charging after journalists, when the damn journalists could have just left. A picture or story is not worth that animals life.

Thorunn Sveinbjarnardottir is the most stupid and unproper environment minister in this planet. And those polices in iceland are useless.

How come those stupid people never use their brain and shot the polar bear? I think they even don’t have brain! They have no mercy to this majestic animal.

I hope people more aware about the importantance to protect this endangered animal.
