  US troops... an airborne landing in the village of ash-Shabab north of Baghdad on Wednesday...the Americans killed five villagers in the raid and then mutilated their bodies. The witnesses added that the Americans then killed another youth in at-Tarimiyah and cut off his limbs...those Americans were implementing policy that involved systematic mutilation of their victims...recently abducted a woman from at-Tarimiyah after imprisoning another woman from ad-Dulu‘iyah north of Baghdad.

- Humvee Destroyed Three Troops Dead

  a high-yield bomb went off directly under a Humvee in an American patrol in the al-Jawlan neighborhood. The blast killed three soldiers immediately and left a fourth mortally wounded, according to witnesses who added that the Humvee was destroyed.

  An 11,000-strong, US-led force - including 3,300 British soldiers, newly based in the restive southern province of Helmand - are battling to re-assert control across southern Afghanistan as part of operation Mountain Thrust. More than 1,000 fresh Taliban fighters have reportedly poured in from the Pakistani province of Balochistan in recent weeks to face them.

  Palestinian militants preparing for an expected Israeli armoured assault on Gaza have vowed to deploy suicide bombers against advancing tanks and armoured personnel carriers. Militant leaders are activating volunteers who have lain dormant because security measures make it all but impossible for Palestinian bombers to attack Israel from fenced-off Gaza.

  Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haneya urged the international community to take action to end Israel's massive offensive in the Gaza Strip, as he inspected the damage to his office after an Israeli air strike on Sunday. "It's an attack against a Palestinian symbol," he said, urging the international community and the Arab League to intervene to bring an end to "this agression."
