    • Impeachment: If not now, when?

Posted by Jeff from Seattle Post-Intelligencer

The issue is not about removing Bush and Cheney as much as it is about preserving the Constitution and redeeming the office of the executive. The Constitution is the contract of governance between the people and the government. What happens when major portions of the contract are violated?

The horror is getting to Matt Taibbi

      Posted by VincebusEruptum from Scholarsandrogues

Exclusive Q&A with writer Taibbi. Snippet - "If and when I ever get to be Interior Minister, one of my first acts is going to be the putting to death of anyone who thinks God interferes in the outcome of things like sporting events and elections. I'd want to have a giant shark tank built expressly for this purpose. Just throw them in there and then dump a couple of barrels of cow blood in the water..."

Bush claims executive privilege on CIA leak

The approval of Mukasey’s appointment was another act of doubling down by the Democrats in Congress. There were warning signs about Mukasey – but the Dems approved the appointment because they were saving the real battle for November.

I just don’t see a downside to this, & don’t understand the carping about being too late, unrealistic, etc.

We need to hold presidents accountable for committing crimes against humanity, international law, & the US Constitution 1) because it’s the ethical thing to do, & failing to do it amounts to complicity, & 2) because it sets a precedent for future administrations. I believe these considerations should override political expediency.

And as for political expediency, seems to me the best thing for Obama & the worst thing for McCain would be to hold up the misdeeds of this Republican White House to public scrutiny over the next few months.
