How To Stop a Republican From Laughing

      Posted by Shemuses

Generation Kill is a fine minseries being shown on HBO. It does not pretend to be anything that it is not. It is a grunt's eye view of the initial invasion of Iraq. I was watching the last episode with my filthy rich republican uncle, who, despite his dogged desire to remain a member of the thirty percent of people who still approve of George W. Bush has been having that faith rocked hard, again, and again.

    • Forget the Surge -- Violence Is Down in Iraq Because Ethnic Cleansing Was Brutally Effective

      Posted by Shemuses from Alternet

The bloodbath in Baghdad has resulted in fewer ethnically mixed neighborhoods, leading to the recent drop in violence. In the article below, Juan Cole takes a closer look at the "surge," weighing the troop increase alongside the numerous other contributing factors to the decline in violence. At the same time, he reminds us that, regardless of the relative decrease in bloodshed -- and what may be behind it -- the country is still a frightfully unstable place for Iraqis.

Iraq Contracts Have Cost Taxpayers At Least $85 Billion Since Invasion

Previous reports point out the increase in US forces that would be needed to replace the contractors. They concluded that the contractors saved big bucks. Given that our Military is a Gov bureaucracy at the "contracting for services" level I have no doubt that handling those services in-house would cost lot more more money.

Will Russia get away with it?

    PROTECTION FROM WHAT???????????????

How can you think they are great?  A country that has a weaker economy, lower cultural level, higher criminal level, and lower lifestyles.  A country that supplies prostitution (with a high infectuous disease rate), drug and arms trafficking because of a corrupted regime and army, etc.

We are apart of a great regime that has more liberties than I care to extend.  A country that still favors INDEPENDENCE!!!!!!!!!   AND FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as being over in Iraq.

We made our move to help stop the war on terror.  What has Russia done?    We have taken our own means to "HELP" rebuild a country that counld one day become great again.

What positive influence has Russia had on this world???????

    Communists are great !

Don’t you think the fight is perfectly similar with the Korean War in 1951 between China and America ?!  Just a kind of self-protection. Much better than the invaders!

The real guy who needs to stay where they belong is the one who should  GET AWAY FROM IRAQ  right now !!!

'War Surgery in Afghanistan and Iraq: A Series of Cases, 2003-2007'

    Joan,

I wouldn’t doubt it. With the direction our country is heading censorship would only be the beginning. The Bush adminiustration would prefer a total dictatorship.

'War Surgery in Afghanistan and Iraq: A Series of Cases, 2003-2007'

I put in the full title to the Government Printing Office and, surprise, surprise, when I put in" War Surgery in Afghanistan and Iraq: A series of cases, 2003-2007, the response was there was no such book.  Not only is this scary though predictable censorship, but it was written to assist future surgeons in treating wounded soldiers.  What sad times we have come to.
