      Kenyan villagers have been shocked by the death of girl who bled to death after trying to perform female genital mutilation (FGM) on herself. Pamela Kathambi did the procedure on her own because she was being teased by her friends for not being circumcised in the remote village of Irindi.

      Kenya's 'Koranic fish' recovered

      A fish with markings that resembled a Koranic text has been found by Kenyan officials after vanishing from the fisheries office where it was stored. The tuna fish, which had provoked intense interest from Muslims, had apparently been stolen by people posing as National Museum officials.

      Hundreds of people have marched through the Kenyan capital to protest at the brutal killing of an HIV-positive boy. Isaiah Gakuyo was allegedly stabbed to death with a pitch-fork because of his status. Police are hunting his uncle, who was supposedly looking after him.

      At least 13 were killed when a Kenyan military aircraft carrying government officials to a peace meeting in northern Kenya crashed as it approached the Marsabit air strip. The plane was carrying officials from Nairobi to Marsabit -- 450 kilometers (280 miles) northeast of the Kenyan capital -- to participate in a peace conference among factions in northern Kenya whose conflict reached a height last year when violence broke out.

      Police raid Kenya media offices

      Masked police carrying AK-47 assault rifles have raided the television station and newspaper owned by the country's second-largest media group and briefly detained four journalists. "They went straight to the transmission studios and instructed the staff there to switch off the transmitters," said KTN Managing Editor Farida Karoney.
