    • Microsoft Busting Unions: Windows into populism's rise

      Posted by common from SFGate.com

WashTech has tried to convert workers' anger into union drives. But those grinning, business-casual Microsoft executives have learned a thing or two about how to bust unions. One example: When a handful of Microsoft workers developing fledgling tax software took an initial step to unionize, the entire project was terminated by management.

    • Conservation Group, Unions Joining Forces

Posted by Jon from Washington Post

In a first-of-its-kind alliance that could fundamentally reshape the environmental movement, 20 labor unions with nearly 5 million members are joining forces with a Republican-leaning umbrella group of conservationists -- the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership -- to put pressure on Congress and the Bush administration.

    • Long US Work Hours Are Bad for the Environment

Posted by Jeff from Truth Out

"Old Europe" currently consumes about half as much energy per person as does the United States. If Europe were to adopt U.S. practices and increase annual work hours to American levels, the paper shows, they could consume some 30 percent more energy than they do at present. Not only could that impact fuel prices worldwide, but the resulting carbon

Dock Workers Shut 29 West Coast Ports in Protest Against the Iraq War

Its funny, but ccarlos’s rant has been removed… wonder how/why?

Picking on cc? If you could read what he wrote, I think I gave a measured response.

Anyway, I’ll gonna "pick on" anyone who promotes war in the name of patriotism or other bs.

Please don’t pick on ccarlos, socean.  You should be grateful that ccarlos is criticising so many pathetic things with the US military and the US Government, and making intelligent observations that a lot of people would be grateful to be told.  Thanks mate.

After thinking about it, I also want to ask anyone who wants to wrap themselves in a flag:

Are you brave enough to fight prostate cancer without insurance? How about facing your family as they watch helplessly while you rot from the groin up? And I’m just one of 47 MILLION citizens of the richest country on earch without health insurance. I’m sure there are other people suffering even more than I am; how about parents who have to watch their children die needlessly?

And we’re the lucky ones. Elsewhere in the world, 25,000 people a DAY die from simple malnutrition.

Meanwhile, we piss away $15 Billion Dollars a month to bring ruin and mayhem to another country.  Shock and Awe? I was Appalled and Disgusted. Mission Accomplished? What mission? What accomplishment? War on Terror? Is there anything more terrible than war?

"Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel." Truer words were never spoken. Come out from hiding under your flag. The world is in trouble, we need real heros, not knuckelheads prancing around an aircraft carrier in a codpiece.

If you’re so brave, so patriotic, so committed, dedicate your life to peace.  Risk your neck actually helping someone. Endure living in a slum while you give comfort and aid. Give your last drops of strength to the downtrodden.

Any dope can put on a uniform and shoot a gun.

    ccarlos

Would you have joined the military if you had to pay for your own meals, buy your own gear, pay for your training, find your own housing, transportation, health care, etc, etc. like the people who actually WORK for a living instead of sucking off the federal tit their entire life? So you joined the military, so what? I’t does’t make you more patriotic than anyone else.

You’re not defending MY country buddy, you’re defending the military industrial complex and the warmongers who run it.

Supporting the troops DOES NOT have to include supporting the war in Iraq, strawman.

Excellent! This is exactly what is needed. The citizens need to take back control.

The Bush administration is never going to listen. Not only should they be impeached, they should all be put on trial as war criminals. If nothing else, their actions have been treasonous. They have squandered lives and resources, bankrupted our country, and besmirched America’s name in the world community while oil companies and the other war profiteers they truly represent post record profits.

    Go Union workers!
