    • A new poll has ominous signs for Republicans

      Posted by Billbar from Salon

There are several noteworthy aspects to the new Washington Post/ABC News poll released today. Almost all of them are ominous signs for Republicans. There is a surprising evenhandedness about the Israel-Hezbollah war. Forty-six percent say that Israel and Hezbollah bear equal blame for the war. Only 38 percent believe that "Israel is doing all it reasonably can do to try to avoid civilian casualties in Lebanon," while 54 percent believe it should do more. By contrast, 58 percent believe the U.S. is doing all it can to avoid civilian casualties in Iraq. Perhaps most important, even those Americans who favor the deployment of a U.N. peacekeeping force in Lebanon overwhelmingly oppose (38-59) the inclusion of U.S. troops in such a force.

    • Kaplan: Does Bush understand his own foreign policy?

      Posted by Billbar from Slate

Bush's remarks yesterday, from his vacation ranch in Crawford, Texas, with Rice at his side, raise once more the question of whether he believes the things he says—whether he's really so clueless about the world that his actions so deeply affect. The transcript contains so many mind-boggling statements that it's hard to know where to begin.

"Triple Alliance": The US, Turkey, Israel and the War on Lebanon

      Posted by j1o2n3a4s5 from globalresearch

If appropriate sanctions against Israel are not adopted by the UN Security Council, due the encroachment of the one or more permanent members of the Security Council, the heads of State and heads of government of those permanent member countries of the Security Council (e.g. US, UK, France) should be considered, under the Nuremberg Charter, accomplices of Israeli “crimes against the peace”, “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity”.

    • Israeli pilots 'deliberately miss' targets

Posted by Billbar from Guardian UK

At least two Israeli fighter pilots have deliberately missed civilian targets in Lebanon as disquiet grows in the military about flawed intelligence, The Observer has learnt. Sources say the pilots were worried that targets had been wrongly identified as Hizbollah facilities. As one well-connected Israeli expert put it: 'If we have such good information in Lebanon, how come we still don't know the hideout of missiles and launchers?... If we don't know the location of their weapons, why should we know which house is a Hizbollah house?'

    • Fisk: Entire Lebanese family killed in Israeli attack on hospital

Posted by Billbar from The Independent

The obscene score-card for death in this latest war now stands as follows: 508 Lebanese civilians, 46 Hizbollah guerrillas, 26 Lebanese soldiers, 36 Israeli soldiers and 19 Israeli civilians. In other words, Hizbollah is killing more Israeli soldiers than civilians and the Israelis are killing far more Lebanese civilians than they are guerrillas. The Lebanese Red Cross has found 40 more civilian dead in the south of the country in the past two days, many of them with wounds suggesting they might have survived had medical help been available.

Chirac was obviously challenged by Italy's offer to command the troops. Whatever works!

No Hezbollah at Qana. All those is south Lebanon are terrorists. Israel has lost any moral authority it had in this battle.
