    • Medical marijuana patients denied a spot on transplant list

Posted by Jeff from Seattle Times

When dying patients need a transplant, should it be held against them if they've used dope with a doctor's blessing? "Most transplant centers struggle with issues of how to deal with people who are known to use marijuana, whether or not it's with a doctor's prescription," said Dr. Robert Sade, director of the Institute of Human Values in Health Care at the Medical University of South Carolina. "Marijuana, unlike alcohol, has no direct effect on the liver. It is however a concern ... in that it's a potential indicator of an addictive personality."

Politics | ACLU, Rick Steves launch marijuana campaign

Posted by Jeff from Seattle Times

Steves, the Edmonds-based travel guru who five years ago openly acknowledged that he uses marijuana while visiting Europe, says he's not "pro-marijuana," but in favor of discussing the laws that affect the 830,000 Americans who are arrested annually under existing marijuana laws. About 90 percent of the arrests are for possession.

State to allow patients to grow own pot

      Posted by Damianmann from kob.com

Starting Sunday medical marijuana will be legal in New Mexico. But now the Department of Health has dropped a bombshell: It will allow people who qualify for medicinal pot to grow it in their own homes. It’s a decision that has made a lot of state law enforcement officials upset.

Marc Emery: The Howard Roark Of The Pot Wars

      Posted by Orato

My hearing isn’t going to start on time on May 28. They’re going to change my dates because of other cases that they think are more important – murder trials and such. It’s been two years already. It’s easy to bump me because my case is unpopular in Canada. They know that the public isn’t behind this...

New study indicates that marijuana smokers face rapid lung destruction « The Frame Problem

I wrote a very long article on how and why it became illegal…as well as , at the time, why it was still illegal. The short story is there was a fight between paper pulp manufacturers, who also owned all the newspapers, and hemp paper. Obviously, the paper pulp people won . They had all the newspapers. They turned it into a racial issue.

these days, it’s all about the pharmos. They don’t want it legal cause it’s just not that profitable.

I just published it as a way of putting out the data. Like you I’ve read that many patients and some vocal doctors say that marijuana smoke actually keeps lung function free. But a real pot-head how smokes all day everyday to stay high and uses say a joint rather than a water-pipe or vaporiser might face some issues. I would think that reasonable medical or relaxation usage should not present much of a problem. But i’m not a doctor, I just support medical use for people that need it and would like an expose’ on the reasons why it is illegal.

I’ve heard the exact opposite. It’s hard to tell who is telling the truth and what the motivations/agendas are.

Don’t they say that the smoke helps people with breathing problems? I know I’ve read that.

As far as I’m concerned, if you’re an adult, it should be your choice if you want to take the chance.

I’ve always been for legalization. The reason is that the government /judicial system fills prisons with non-violent offenders due to what is, arguably, a harmless activity. It’s hit the black community the hardest…as do most drug laws. That’s where the agenda/motivation questions arise for me.

    What do you think?
