Al-Jazeera cameraman freed from Guantanamo after six years

Posted by Shemuses from Globe and Mail

An Al-Jazeera cameraman was released from U.S. custody at Guantanamo Bay and returned home to Sudan early Friday after six years of imprisonment that drew worldwide protests. Sami al-Haj arrived at the airport in Sudan's capital, Khartoum, on a U.S. military plane along with two other Sudanese released from Guantanamo. Mr. al-Haj was the only journalist from a major international news organization held at Guantanamo and many of his supporters saw his detention as punishment for a network whose broadcasts angered U.S. officials. The military alleged he was a courier for a militant Muslim organization, an allegation his lawyers denied.

    • Matt Taibbi questions America's sanity

      Posted by VincebusEruptum from Jazz-from-hell.blogspot

Writer Taibbi's new book 'The Great Derangement' goes on sale May 6 and he's put out a promotional video for it that roasts a corrupt White House and an acquiescent corporate media for eight years of greed, terror and blatant, murderous lies. His fellow citizens aren't exactly spared, either...

The BRAD BLOG : Hillary Clinton: The Luckiest Woman in the World

Posted by Damianmann from Brad Blog

With 99.51% of the vote reportedly counted as of this moment, according to the PA Dept. of State s own numbers, it s Clinton s 54.6% to Obama s 45.4%. So, in truth, that s actually just a 9.2-point difference, but, as luck would have it for the New York Senator, rounding each of those numbers to their nearest percent, as the bulk of the media were happy to do today, allows for a nice, easily-trumpeted, double-digit, 55% to 45% number that can be reported far and wide!

Seems to me like the corporate media wants Rev. Wright to be the nominee!

Corporate media is making it look like Clinton will earn her nomination/win against Obama in a hard fought contest; Obama will bow to her soon.  THEN says Corporate Media, the Luckiest Citizens in the World with get Clinton vs. McCain in 2008.

    Randi Rhodes leaves Air America

I visited her website’s forum trying to find a transcript or archived show of an inteview with Ron Paul that Stacey forgot his name did when he was guest hosting for her. You can’t post a new topic until you posted 10 times to other topics. I wrote several posts on various topics and thought I had written some good stuff. I said there was 1 show I hadn’t liked. The entire show was about Oprah Winfrey’s vocal inflection at a pro Barak O’Bama rally she had hosted. I didn’t think it was worth the entire show for such a pointless discussion. The forum members pounced on me immediately for saying such a thing. I was even threatened by some member who was going to kick my ass. I begged him to PM me so I arrange a meeting somewhere. I was reminded that anything negative posted about her or Air America, no matter how slight, subjected the author to being banned. It was such a sad display of sycophantic idolization complete with imitations of her buh-byes it grossed me out. I could see the members including the men running around in RR wigs, makeup, and fashionable clothing imitating her accent, pretending to be her. Not a single comment was offered to anything else I posted. I haven’t listened to her since nor gone back to the forum since.
