    • Bloggers Say DNC List Lacks Racial Diversity

Posted by Shemuses from Washington Post

Forget the row over RFK, the latest superdelegate tally or Saturday's sure-to-be contentious meeting of the Rules and Bylaws Committee. With the Democratic National Convention less than three months away, and with Web pundits playing an even bigger role during the four-day event, a whole other drama is chewing up the blogosphere -- and the often unmentioned Afrosphere.

Is the Secret Service Investigating Liz Trotta and Fox News?

Posted by Damianmann from Huffington Post

FOX News political pundit Liz Trotta jokingly suggested this weekend that someone should assassinate an American presidential candidate. She had first "mistakenly" referred to Obama as "Osama" while discussing theories that Hillary Clinton's recent comments about the RFK assassination was in fact a suggestion that someone "knock off Osama." When she was corrected and reminded that she meant "Obama," she then said, "Well, both if we could."

    • Publius Project - Dan Gillmor: Principles of a New Media Literacy

      Posted by Damianmann

The democratization of media is no longer in doubt. Digital media tools, increasingly cheap and ubiquitous, have spawned a massive amount of media creation at all levels, most notably from the edges of networks. These networks have provided vast access to what people have created - potentially a global audience for anyone's creation. But the expanding and more diverse media ecosystem, which includes various kinds of citizen media alongside traditional forms, poses some difficult challenges alongside the unquestioned benefits. A key question: In this emergent global conversation, which has created a tsunami of information, what can we trust?

Al-Jazeera cameraman freed from Guantanamo after six years

Posted by Shemuses from Globe and Mail

An Al-Jazeera cameraman was released from U.S. custody at Guantanamo Bay and returned home to Sudan early Friday after six years of imprisonment that drew worldwide protests. Sami al-Haj arrived at the airport in Sudan's capital, Khartoum, on a U.S. military plane along with two other Sudanese released from Guantanamo. Mr. al-Haj was the only journalist from a major international news organization held at Guantanamo and many of his supporters saw his detention as punishment for a network whose broadcasts angered U.S. officials. The military alleged he was a courier for a militant Muslim organization, an allegation his lawyers denied.

Vanity Fair Spoofs The New Yorker Cover

They’re both satire. Who are we? Are we as a nation any better than a bunch of pissed off Muslim fundamentalists in Denmark?  Let’s all lighten up!!

Is the New Yorker's Muslim Obama cover incendiary or satire? | Top of the Ticket | Los Angeles Times

It’s both. Right, it’s satire to the elitist New Yorker editorial board – oblivious to the incendiary impact of what they’ve done.

Religion convinced the world that there’s an invisible man in the sky who watches everything you do. And there’s 10 things he doesn’t want you to do or else you’ll go to a burning place with a lake of fire until the end of eternity. But he loves you! ...And he needs money! He’s all powerful, but he can’t handle money!
